South African steak restaurant and wine bar Vivat Bacchus is returning to its roots for Freedom Day (27th April) with the launch of its new South African focused a la carte and special feasting Braai menu for tables of eight or more.

Taking inspiration from the country’s rich and diverse history, the new menus feature South African classics with plenty of bold flavours and warming aromas that will transport you to the land of the Rainbow Nation with every bite.

A Taste of South Africa - Vivat Bacchus fires out two new menus to celebrate South African Freedom Day

Kick things off with Mushroom and Beetroot Frikkadel, doused in chakalaka – a staple hailing from Johannesburg made from beans, fresh veggies, onions, peppers, and tomatoes with a spicy twist. Or snap up the Crocodile Goujons with pickled chilli and chermoula.

For mains, meat lovers are in for a treat with unique new cuts including an Ostrich Fillet Steak – a succulent, low fat meat popular in the restaurants home country and Karoo Style Lamb Chops with spring greens. And, no South African menu would be complete without a Bone in Ribeye to share.

Hands up those with a sweet tooth! Sink your spoon into South Africa’s answer to sticky toffee pudding, Malva Pudding - a caramelised, moist and spongy dessert bursting with apricot flavour, served with a healthy portion of creamy custard.

Tables of eight or more can get stuck into the Braai feasting menu. Braai takes its spot as one of the most popular cooking styles in South Africa with tender, juicy meat very much the star of the show. More than just a way to prepare food, it's designed to bring loved ones together for celebrations.

Gather the gang and tuck into sharing plates of King Prawns with Cape Malay Sauce – a key dish that embodies all the richness, diversity, and complexity of South African cuisine, Boerewors, and Butterflied Chicken with Braai Rub.

And it’s not just all about the food, Vivat Bacchus boasts the biggest South African wine list in London. Delve into the extensive walk-in wine cellars and you’ll find stand-out producers like Meerlust – champions of the Bordeaux Blend in South Africa, Boekenhoutskloof – best known for creating the legendary Chocolate Block, and Rainbow’s End - a family estate renowned for their Cab Francs.

Freedom Day is the commemoration of the first democratic elections held in South Africa in 1994. Vivat Baachus will be celebrating throughout the whole of April, and any guests dining during the month will receive a special treat.
